As recent events have shown, David Bowie is the hero of our days. From solving world poverty to curing, um, stuff, it seems that the skinny white fella did everything ever. But the question on everyone’s lips is, “did he invent rap metal”? Strange to relate, he didn’t. I know. I was as shocked as you, seeing as how he invented all music. But it wasn’t him. It didn’t even involve former Spider from Hull, Trevor Bolder, who was in between jobs at the time, during his 5 year hiatus from the Heep. No, it was Uriah Heep sans Bolder who invented rap metal on their 1983 album “Head First”. Of course, they don’t like to talk about it, but they were there three years before Run DMC and Aerosmith did their thing.
I’m sure that Mick Box, in between tours of Uzbekistan, likes nothing better than to chill of an evening, listening to the Public Enemy / Anthrax collaboration his band inspired, thumbs aloft, well ‘appy. And here is that song ‘Stay On Top’, in shortened format, on the telly. For the full glory you’ll have to check out the album. Bitches.
